A Study of Higher-band Dipole Wakefields in X-band Accelerating Structures for the G/nlc
The X-band linacs for the G/NLC (Global/Next Linear Collider) have evolved from the DDS (Damped Detuned Structure) series. The present accelerating structures are 60 cm in length and incorporate damping and detuning of the dipole modes which comprise the wakefield. In order to adequately damp the wakefield, frequencies of adjacent structures are interleaved. Limited analysis has been done previ...

In the Next Linear Collider (NLC)[1], long trains of short, intense bunches are accelerated through the linac on their way to the collision point. One serious problem that needs to be addressed is the multi–bunch, beam break–up instability in the linac. To counteract this instability the accelerating structures are designed so that the dipole mode wakefields are detuned and weakly damped. Detun...

In the JLC/NLC X-band linear collider, it is essential to reduce the long-range dipole wakefields in the accelerator structure to prevent beam break up (BBU) and emittance degradation. The two methods of reducing the long-range wakefields are detuning and damping. Detuning reduces the wakefields rapidly as the dipole modes de-cohere but, with a finite number of modes, the wakefield will grow ag...

Beam emittance dilution by self induced transverse elds (wake elds) in accelerating structures is a key problem in linear accelerators. To minimize the wake eld e ects the beam trajectory must be precisely centered within the structures. An e cient way to achieve this is to detect beam induced microwave signals in the lowest dipole mode band and to steer the beam by minimizing these signals. Th...
متن کاملMulti-band Dipole and Multipole Wakefields in Nlc Traveling Wave Accelerators Using a Wire Measurement Technique
Dipole wakefields in NLC (Next Linear Collider) structures have been measured with ASSET [1] and well predicted by a circuit model [2]. However, the experimental technique is both time-consuming and expensive. Here, we report on kick factor and synchronous frequency determination for 1 and higher order dipole bands for TW (Traveling Wave) accelerators via a wire measurement technique. This stan...
